Banning booze

Banning booze

In a local poll held during the 1908 general election, the Masterton electorate voted to ban the production and sale of alcohol in their district. The area remained dry until 1946. This poster was produced for the 1911 election, encouraging Wellingtonians to vote for prohibition. It uses Masterton’s experience to promote the perceived benefits, claiming a drop in crime and accident rates, and an increase in building.
