Spur-winged plover

Spur-winged plover

Spur-winged plovers are larger than other New Zealand breeding plovers and dotterels. A recent self-introduced species from Australia, they make the most of farmland and golf greens. Their raucous aggression towards intruders has earned them the title ‘noisy Australians’.
