Motukorea – Browns Island, Hauraki Gulf

The coastline and estuaries of the Auckland region provide abundant feeding grounds for New Zealand and international waders. This island in the Hauraki Gulf, Motukorea (also known as Browns Island), was named after the oystercatcher (korea or torea). It is still an important site for oystercatchers, as well as for threatened New Zealand dotterels.
