Mākereti Papakura (‘Guide Maggie’) and her half-sister Bella were among the most prominent guides in the Whakarewarewa thermal area in the early 20th century. This photograph is reproduced on a tin plate. Scenes from around New Zealand also appear on the rim of the plate, separated by portraits of Māori men and women.
