Bathing at the Pink Terraces

Bathing at the Pink Terraces

Soaking in steaming hot water was a favourite experience in the thermal regions. These young Māori are bathing in a silica basin at the Pink Terraces on Lake Rotomahana, near Rotorua, around 1880. The terraces were completely destroyed when nearby Mt Tarawera erupted in 1886.
