Ōhinemutu, 1860s
People gather on the lake shore and in the village of Ōhinemutu, which was one of the largest settlements on Lake Rotorua’s shores in the 19th century. Most of the houses have thatched roofs, and hot water from thermal springs was used for cooking and washing.
