A common complaint about life in mid-20th century suburbia was that it was boring. The point is highlighted in this clip from the 1971 documentary Notes on a New Zealand city. It was critical of the failure of city planning to provide social and cultural amenities for residents in new areas like Wainuiomata, near Wellington.
