Checking for foot and mouth disease

In 2005 fears of a foot and mouth outbreak on Waiheke Island led to tight restrictions on moving stock while vets checked animals for signs of the disease. The animals were found to be unaffected, and police concluded that the alarm had been raised by a hoax caller.
