Rainbow trout distribution

Two things are apparent about the distribution of rainbow trout. First, they are a northern fish, occurring above the Coromandel Peninsula (and beyond the spawning range of brown trout). Second, they are mainly a lake fish, clustered around rivers with large lakes in their catchments.
