Story: Trees in the rural landscape
Douglas fir is the preferred timber tree in districts that are too cold for growing radiata pine. It has been grown on high country farms since 1859. Its timber is suitable for structural and framing purposes. These four-year-old Douglas fir trees are shown during a field day at Glen Lyon station, Lake Ōhau, in the Mackenzie Country.
