The new guide to the lakes and hot springs; and, A month in hot water was published in 1882 by Thorpe Talbot. This was the first tourist guidebook for travellers to New Zealand and focused on the lakes and geothermal areas of the central North Island. A growing number of guidebooks followed during the 1880s.
