Story: The New Zealanders
Māori were a unique, distinguishing element of New Zealand life. For a time around the 1900s Australians called New Zealand ‘Maoriland’ and a few New Zealanders also used the name. The poet Thomas Bracken collected his verse under the title Musings in Maori-land, with images which were appropriately nationalistic.
