This photo was taken in 1911 at Te Ārai, near Maunganui Bluff, Northland. The blubber is being cut into smaller pieces for boiling down. The men involved in the work are, from left, Paratene (Broughton) Kapa, Mete (Smith) Keepa, Pane Kapa and Eru Ihaka.
