These Te Aute College old boys are, back row, Māui Pōmare, H. Hawkins and Te Rangi Hīroa (Peter Buck), and, front row, Hāmiora Hei, Āpirana Ngata and Rēweti Kōhere. Part of a group known as the Young Maori Party, the politicians among them attempted to slow down land purchases, and to assist Māori to utilise land they owned.
