Mutu in karaka tree

Mutu in karaka tree

This is a replica of a snare used to catch kākā. As the bird lands the noose is drawn tight, trapping it. The snare, attached to a pole, is then unhooked from the tree and taken down. Then the bird is killed, and the snare is reset and put back on the tree.
