Story: Te mahi kai – food production economics

Trapping kanakana (lamprey)

A taua (elderly woman) shows exactly how to place the ‘pae’ – a trap made from brush and bracken weighted down with stones. The pae traps the kanakana (lamprey), and the whole trap is lifted up once a good catch has been made.
