Story: Taniwha
This news report features an issue about a taniwha named Karutahi that gained national attention. A hapū (sub-tribe) in Waikato, Ngāti Naho, was concerned that a highway improvement would destroy the lair of this taniwha. Transit New Zealand agreed to reroute the highway to allay their concerns.
