Story: Tall broadleaf trees
Confined to coastal forests of northern New Zealand, tawapou grows on many nearshore islands – especially those that are free of rats, which eat the large ripe berries and destroy the seeds. Tawapou also grows naturally on Norfolk Island, where it is known as bastard ironwood.
