Story: Take whenua – Māori land tenure
This map gives names for the numerous pā tuna (eel weirs) on the Tūtira and Maheawha streams at Tūtira, Hawke’s Bay. It was well-known who had the right to use each pā tuna. For instance, the right to use Te Kopare and Tōtara was gifted to the chief Pohaki in exchange for repelling an invasion.
