Female elephant seal and pup, Campbell Island

The southern elephant seal (Mirounga leonina) breeds on Campbell and Antipodes islands. The pups are suckled for only about four weeks, but the milk is very rich. The males grow to a huge size (3,700 kilograms) and have big inflatable noses.
