Young Sri Lankans living in New Zealand have some opportunities to express their identity at multicultural events. Here the Epsom Girls’ Grammar School Sri Lankan group put the finishing touches to their makeup before performing in the 2001 Auckland Secondary Schools Māori and Pacific Islands Cultural Festival. Established in the 1970s, this festival has grown to include groups from beyond the Pacific.
