Freshwater fishing has long attracted anglers, both from New Zealand and overseas. The fly-fishing at Lake Taupō is world famous. Here anglers line up with their rods and wet flies as they fish for trout at the mouth of the Waitahanui Stream flowing into Lake Taupō. A quarter of adult New Zealanders go fishing.
