Oyster-opening contest

The annual Bluff oyster and Southland seafood festival takes place in late April. Thousands come to sample fresh seafood and watch the festival highlight – the oyster-opening competition. Displaying their ‘shucking’ skills here are some of the competitors in 2003, including the mayor of Invercargill (and Bluff), Tim Shadbolt.
