Students perfect their English
Students from Fiji, Tuvalu and the Solomon Islands add a Pacific touch to the University of Otago’s Asian-dominated foundation studies course. The specialist one-year course precedes the first year of university, and allows students to improve their English. New Zealand has been the first port of call for many promising students from the Pacific. Although some return to work in the governments of their countries, many find that there are few jobs for the highly educated, and they have to work away from their home islands.
