Mixed farming

Mixed farming

In the 19th century some cropping farmers ran a few dairy cattle to provide a regular income. This is Cruickshank’s farm at Willowbridge, in 1898. Hand-milking was done in the shed on the right. Maturing wheat is visible in the back fields.
