Story: South Canterbury region
In 1936 Jack Lovelock became the first New Zealander to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics, for the 1,500 metres at Berlin. He had attended Timaru Boys’ High School, and this memorial to his achievements stands in the grounds of the school.
