Broadcaster Simon Walker was born in South Africa. Here he argues with Prime Minister Robert Muldoon in a notorious 1976 television confrontation. Simon’s accent betrays his Oxford education. Many white South Africans have strong English ties. Afrikaners dubbed English South Africans ‘rooineks’ (rednecks) as their white skin was prone to burn under the South African sun.
