Story: Soils
Most Semi-arid soils are free-draining but receive insufficient rainfall to remove soluble salts. These may build up in the subsoil as white deposits unless flushed out by irrigation water. Such soils are chemically fertile, although only moist enough for plant growth for a short time each year.
