Story: Soil erosion and conservation
The early stages of pasture development after burning were not a pretty site. It was important to establish a pasture cover quickly, but the gaunt skeletons of burnt trees and logs remained. For many years the roots of these trees helped anchor the soil to slopes. The limitations of pasture cover were only found much later, when the roots had decomposed.
