Learning the Māori language

Māori is an official language in New Zealand. Fears that it might die out have lessened following a concerted effort to teach it to young Māori and others. Māori language and culture are taught in schools, and the introduction of a Māori television channel in 2004 promised the language a brighter future. These pupils are at Thorndon School in Wellington.
