Kauri snail

The giant kauri snail, found in Northland, was known to Māori as pūpūrangi. Shells can grow up to 6 centimetres across. The snail’s diet consists of earthworms, insects, insect larvae – and other snails. Widespread before human settlement, kauri snails are now endangered.
