Kermadec red-crowned parakeet

The Kermadec red-crowned parakeet, a subspecies of the New Zealand red-crowned parakeet, is endemic to the subtropical Kermadec Islands. The birds feed and nest close to the ground, so they are very vulnerable to predation by mammals. Cats and rats caused them to become extinct on Raoul Island, but they have remained plentiful on uninhabited Macauley Island.
