Wrecks and shipping casualties, 1881 (1st of 2)

This table records the decisions of enquiries into wrecks during the first part of 1881. After 1863, enquiries were held into all shipwrecks. A preliminary investigation was held by a customs officer and then, if warranted, there was a hearing before a magistrate. The enquiries aimed to determine what had happened and ensure that such events did not recur.
