The Athenic

In the early years of the 20th century the biggest liners running to New Zealand were the 12,200-ton Athenic class for the joint Shaw Savill & Albion/White Star service. The stately four-mast Athenic could carry 121 first-class, 117 second-class and 450 third-class passengers, and as this photograph from around 1916 shows, she could make a lot of smoke.
