Replica of the Bounty

Replica of the Bounty

From the 1960s Whāngārei Engineering and Construction were the largest shipbuilders in New Zealand. Among their projects was a replica of Captain Bligh’s famous ship, the Bounty, used in the film Mutiny on the Bounty. Although the replica hull was of steel, detailed research ensured that the woodwork was historically accurate. Here the new Bounty is being launched on 16 December 1978.
