Story: Sheep farming

Texels for meat production

Texels for meat production

Since the late 1960s wool prices have been falling, while shearing costs have steadily increased. Some sheep farmers have come to regard wool as a cost to their business, and have turned to lamb production as their main source of income. Texel sheep do not grow much wool, but they do produce bigger, meatier, and leaner lambs for the export trade.
