Skate egg cases
Some sharks and rays give birth to live young, while others lay eggs enclosed in leathery cases. The Arhynchobatis skate lays egg cases, pictured here. The tendrils on each end catch hold of seaweed or rocks, preventing the cases from being swept away or washed ashore.
