Elephant fish
With distinctive hoe-shaped snouts, and measuring up to 1.25 metres, elephant fish can be easily identified. Sensory pores at the tip of the snout detect moving prey, usually molluscs. In New Zealand elephant fish are most common off Banks Peninsula, where they are caught commercially.
