The New Zealand continent
New Zealand’s islands are the higher ground of a mini-continent called Zealandia, which is about half the size of Australia. Underwater, the continent supports inshore fisheries, and some parts of it may also be mined for minerals in the future. Off the Taranaki coast it has been mined for oil and gas since the 1970s.
