Waipū’s community (5th of 6)

Waipū’s community

A strong community spirit was one legacy of the predominantly Scottish settlement of Waipū. The features of this crowd (image at top), gathered in a large marquee for a community celebration, reveal how many of the early settlers were of Scottish descent. Several of the women are wearing dresses made of tartan.
