Ranger at speed
The supremacy of the Logan and Bailey families ended in 1938 when the Tercel brothers built the Ranger. The brothers were of working-class, Dalmatian background, who worked in a shelter beside their Ponsonby home. Through careful study of overseas designs they produced by far the fastest yacht in the Auckland fleet. The boat was 60 feet (18 metres) long, and had a three-skin diagonal kauri construction.
