Nāti T-shirt

Nāti T-shirt

Ramari McCarthy of the Ngāti Porou tribe wears a T-shirt printed with the word 'nāti' and a picture of a horse. Ngāti Porou use the word nāti to describe their horses, and as a nickname for the tribe. The same word, variously spelled ngati, naaiti and naati, was adopted by Pākehā settlers to describe a brumby or wild horse.
