Greymouth Harbour entrance

The mouth of the Grey River serves as an entrance to the port of Greymouth. Breakwaters on the banks protect the entrance and funnel the river into the sea, helping to scour out a channel for boats. The breakwaters are made of huge blocks of quarried rock, known as rip rap.
