Story: Refugees
The war in Vietnam ended in 1975, but refugees continued to arrive, escaping Indochinese conflicts and the communist government. The 1982 arrivals in New Zealand included three Vietnamese families who had been living in a refugee camp in Hong Kong. Sponsored by a Catholic parish, they settled in Porirua and Tītahi Bay, near Wellington.
