Chinese from Indonesia find haven in New Zealand

In the 1970s, Chinese in Indonesia were subject to racial and religious persecution. Mr and Mrs Burhan Effendy, who had fled this persecution, were helped to come to New Zealand by the National Council of Churches. The council had started to play an active role in sponsoring refugees and helping them to settle.
