Story: Recreational sea fishing
This 369-kilogram swordfish was caught by Jerry Garrett in the Bay of Islands in May 2003 on 37-kilogram breaking-strain line – a world record. It took 10 hours to bring the fish in. Because the three men on board could not lift it, they lashed it to the boat until they reached Mangonui wharf, 28 nautical miles away, where willing hands helped them haul the fish aboard. From there the boat sailed for Russell, where the scales revealed the swordfish’s impressive weight.
