Niuean soldiers in Auckland, 1916

These young Niuean men, hosted by Nurse Hobbs at an Auckland Trained Nurses Club function, had never worn shoes before. Their huge, muscled feet were well adapted to traversing their rocky home isle, but unsuitable for parade ground marching.
