The three most senior New Zealand servicewomen during the Second World War were Kitty Kain, superintendent of the Women's Auxiliary Air Force (WAAF); Vida Jowett, chief commander of the New Zealand Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC); and Ruth Herrick, director of the Women's Royal New Zealand Naval Service (WRNZNS).
