Tuini Ngāwai and Ngoi Pēwhairangi, 1943

Two generations of great East Coast songwriters appear in this photo – Tuini Ngāwai (left) and her niece Ngoingoi Pēwhairangi. They are taking part in the celebrations for the posthumous presentation of the Victoria Cross won by Te Moananui-a-Kiwa Ngārimu to his parents, at Ruatōria in October 1943.
