Palmerston North Teachers' College marae, 1980

Palmerston North Teachers' College marae, 1980

The first teachers' college to provide marae as part of its facilities was at Massey University, in Palmerston North. This photo shows the opening ceremony for Te Kupenga o te Matauranga (which means the web of learning) marae in September 1980. Its carving and other decorations were produced by staff and students under the direction of artist Cliff Whiting.
